Caren Winnall is a lens-based visual artist with a practice that examines everyday life in contemporary society. Her work ranges from portraying diverse American and international communities with sensitivity, to examining traces of cultural identity on her forays across American landscapes. Winnall’s photographs celebrate the poetry of the ordinary and engage with the unfamiliar and found artifacts of a not too distant past.

Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and overseas including the Center for Photographic Art, Newport Art Museum, HistoryMiami Museum, Griffin Museum of Photography, FotoNostrom Gallery in Barcelona, Los Angeles Center of Photography, Ephemere Gallery in Tokyo, Davis Orton Gallery, A.Smith Gallery, and the Berlin Foto Biennale. Winnall received Honorable Mention in the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards in 2016, 2019, 2020 & 2023. She was a Finalist in the Miami Street Photography Festival in 2019 and 2022, and was selected for the Women Street Photographers Virtual Exhibition in 2021.

Winnall has released five monographs, Every Piece of the Puzzle Falls into Place, 2016, The South End, 2019, Heartstrings: Photographs of the Mississippi Delta, 2020, Shoreline, 2023 (Handmade), and Route 1, 2024. She lives and works in Connecticut.
